Building Your Dream Home
Everyone has an idea as to what their dream home will look like but have you ever thought about building it yourself. Couples are building their own homes all across the country. Why? Because they have more say in how their home looks when it is completed AND, they can save a lot of money. So what do you need to know in order to build your own home? For starters, you need to have an in depth understanding of basic construction standards and techniques. And, you need to purchase a really good book on home construction. Trust me, you will be using it a lot. Nobody knows everything! If you have never built anything, then I suggest you start a few weekend projects, maybe a shop or playhouse to get a feel for construction. This will also help you decide if this is something you would enjoy and could handle. If constructing a playhouse, doghouse, birdhouse, or any outside project is a daunting task, then you may not want to tackle a massive effort like home construction. Your cost savings could be out the window if you are unable to handle the stress and organization involved. If you do make the decision to be your own contractor, take your time making the crucial decisions. Watch for our next intel covering the site selection process.
